The Distributed Coordination Engine (DConE) from WANdisco, a LiveData subsidiary, is now available to enable highly secure and dependable transactionality for permission blockchains (i.e. digital ledgers) in the financial sector, as well as other business-critical applications and use cases.
This new use of DConE, the solely marketed version of the Paxos algorithm, will provide a fault-tolerant alternative to the Raft method, which is widely utilized in digital ledger technologies like Hyperledger Fabric and R3 Corda. DConE, the foundation of WANdisco’s offerings, has previously been used to provide:
- Replication of Subversion and Git repositories across multiple sites
- Migration and replication of mission-critical data to cloud service Providers like Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS)
- Keeping data consistent across on-premises and multi-cloud setups using Hadoop-compatible file systems, Apache Hive, and Databricks.
After their success in coordinating software collaboration and LiveData migration and replication to the cloud, Dr Yeturu Aahlad, Co-Founder and Chief Scientist, WANdisco, saw an opportunity to deliver DConE as a solution for organizations demanding high availability of their distributed ledgers.
Dr Aahlad monetized the Paxos algorithm to improve the internet’s efficiency, trustworthiness, and reliability for mission-critical applications. Aahlad and WANdisco’s other co-founder, CEO David Richards, believed that advanced analytics would rely heavily on the cloud.
The unique consensus method used by WANdisco operates by requiring all storage points on its network to endorse any transaction that is made. Multiple trades can be executed simultaneously, allowing for a more scalable distributed ledger with faster transaction speeds than traditional blockchain frameworks.
WANdisco CEO Dave Richards expressed his delight at the prospect of offering DConE as a new consensus alternative for permission blockchains and digital ledger technologies. This new application, according to Richards, will help WANdisco fulfil its purpose of providing technology that allows customers to profit from the freedom of data regardless of where they are or when they need it.
