According to a company statement, IBM has appointed former Goldman Sachs President and COO Gary D. Cohn as vice chairman of IBM and a member of the IBM executive leadership committee. From January 2017 until April 2018, Cohn served as President Trump’s economic policy assistant and director of the National Economic Council. Before serving in the White House, Mr. Cohn was president and chief operating officer of the Goldman Sachs Group from 2006-2016. He held several other leadership positions with that company for 26 years.

In collaboration with IBM CEO Arvind Krishna and the IBM Executive Leadership Team, Mr. Cohn will work on a wide range of business initiatives and external engagement in business development, customer services, public advocacy, and management of client relationships.

Mr. Krishna said that Gary is a globally respected leader with deep experience operating at the business and government center. As a senior representative of IBM, his knowledge of technology and business transformation, combined with policymaking expertise, will bring unique value to their clients and stakeholders as they accelerate their hybrid cloud and AI strategy.

Mr. Cohn stated that he is honored to join IBM, one of the essential companies globally, providing technology that helps organizations in unpredictable times be agile and resilient. Mr. Cohn is the co-chairman of a special-purpose acquisition company, Cohn Robbins Holding Corp. He is an investor in the cybersecurity, blockchain, regulatory and medical technology sectors. He serves on the boards of directors of Abyrx, Gro Intelligence, Indago, Nanopay, and Starling, and is Chairman of the Pallas Advisors Board. In addition to that, Mr. Cohn serves on the Hoyos Integrity and Spring Labs advisory boards. He is a member of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation’s Systemic Resolution Advisory Committee (SRAC) (FDIC).
