SafetyPay, Latin America and Europe’s leading digital alternative payment platforms, recently partnered with LATAM Airlines Group to facilitate its digital payment wallet and contribute to its digital transformation project.
The solution provided by SafetyPay will allow non-cardholders and fraud-conscious consumers to participate in the purchase of airline tickets by bank transfer or cash without sharing their information online. By accepting alternative forms of payment, the platform broadens LATAM Airlines Group’s ability to obtain more customers.
Intending to offer customers a better online and digital experience when flying, LATAM, the aviation group that serves connectivity within the region and South America and the rest of the continents, has focused on its digitalization. This covers the entire journey, beginning with planning and buying. The new SafetyPay digital solution aims to provide all customers with bank transfers and cash payment solutions, in addition to credit card transactions. The digital solution also aims to reduce the number of required fields and minutes required to buy a ticket, reducing it by more than 10 minutes. The new purchase transactions will reduce the number of minutes to complete a transaction to 4:55 minutes and the number of fields from 18 to two.
Gustavo Ruiz Moya, CEO of, SafetyPay said that providing a payment solution to include un- and under-banked customers has been an essential goal for SaftyPay for more than a decade. It is essential to offer a secure, risk-fraud payment solution to purchase airline tickets using a digital wallet to tap a larger number of customers who either do not have or have credit cards but do not want to use them. They will contribute to a better and faster online sales experience with their payment solutions that leverages the latest technology to protect their customers and offer them the best online experience.
The partnership was recently launched in Chile, Colombia, and Ecuador, and will be followed next year by other markets, such as Brazil and Peru.
Nicolas Salazar, LATAM Airlines VP of eBusiness and head of the digital transformation team, said they have been implementing an ambitious transformation since 2019 to create a customer-centred end-to-end digital experience, making life easier for their passengers throughout their entire journey. They are focused on removing obstacles, simplifying rules, reducing transaction times with a clear focus on enhancing their customers’ experience, and capturing demand.
