Starburst, the analytics anywhere brand, has signed a collaboration with Alibaba Cloud, the Alibaba Group’s digital technology and intelligence backbone, to bring Starburst Enterprise to the Greater China market.

This collaboration has been finalized after a year of record financing and year-over-year development across sales channels, recruitment, and the global customer base. Alibaba Cloud is offering engineering to incorporate Starburst Enterprise on Alibaba Cloud, as well as sales, service, and support resources to ensure a streamlined customer experience.

Starburst is already accessible on major public and private cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, GCP, Red Hat, and HPE, but this collaboration is a crucial component toward supplying the analytics engine for data mesh in Greater China for Alibaba Cloud customers.

As per IDC, the compound annual growth rate of China’s public cloud market over the last five years has reached 61.1 percent, which is considerably higher than the 23.8 percent growth rate in the United States.

With 87.4 percent of Chinese firms using open-source technologies, Chinese users are the second most renowned group on GitHub after Americans, and this development presents a huge potential market for Starburst to enable Alibaba Cloud customers to offer better data access through a data mesh architecture, deliver data as a commodity, and equip business users to make informed decisions.

China, like the rest of the world, has been affected by the pandemic’s digital pressure, according to Dr Jia Yangqing, VP of Alibaba Group, Senior Fellow of the Computing Platform, Alibaba Cloud Intelligence.

As long-time consumers and supporters of the Trino project, they are thrilled to be able to leverage the open-source community, and now this enterprise distribution of Starburst on Alibaba Cloud, so that large businesses in China can leverage its power to expedite their digital transformations in the face of the pandemic’s challenges added Dr. Yangqing.

With this collaboration, Starburst is now accessible on nearly every major platform and can be purchased through their marketplaces. The Alibaba Cloud collaboration follows the recent release of Stargate, a new product offering designed to serve as a single access point to data across borders, with fast query performance, while meeting data privacy protocols and sovereignty requirements.

Businesses based in China, as well as China-based subsidiaries of multinational corporations, can now easily capitalize these powerful, global analytics capabilities to build infrastructures that reflect today’s global nature of business, courtesy of this collaboration.

Global corporations are discovering that their enterprise data is increasingly dispersed across multiple clouds and geographical regions. Starburst’s vision is to unleash the analyst within everyone and provide access to all of a company’s data, regardless of where it resides. As a result, they instinctively want to be wherever their customers want to be, expressed Justin Borgman, CEO of Starburst.

Alibaba Cloud is the ideal partner to assist them in extending their analytics engine for this global data mesh to the greater China market and enabling a deeper level of hybrid analytics that was previously unavailable in this region, added Borgman.

Starburst is poised to continue its mission of bringing analytics anywhere after a year of explosive growth. This collaboration is a crucial component toward achieving that goal.
