Omnisend, an SMS and Email marketing automation platform for eCommerce companies, is teaming up with GiveNKind to help minimize eCommerce waste on Earth Day. The new alliance allows eCommerce businesses to donate unsold inventory to charities.
Businesses in the United States interested in participating in the program, whether once or regularly, can request an application and work with GiveNKind to find charities in their regions. GiveNKind’s latest list of 355 nonprofits includes everything from large national organizations to independent, locally focused organizations.
GiveNKind, founded by Emily Petway in Chicago, acts as a middleman between companies with available but unsellable goods and charitable organizations that can benefit from them. Since October 2018, it has placed $3.7 million in products.
The company, according to Emily, creates a win-win-win scenario. It supports those in need in underserved neighborhoods, nonprofits that help them, and companies with excess inventory that would otherwise be discarded.
Emily believes that for the eCommerce brand, it is not only giving them the ”good-feeling” of corporate social responsibility and elevating their company in the eyes of the world, but it is also assisting them in removing products from their warehouses, so they don’t have to pay the charge or dump it.
Merchants are dumping a lot of merchandise. According to a 2019 impact study from technology firm Optoro, the United States’States’ landfills receive 5 billion pounds of returns per year. With the pandemic causing a surge in online shopping, figures were expected to rise during the 2020 holiday season.
Rytis Lauris, CEO and Co-Founder of Omnisend thinks that consumers are increasingly demanding companies to contribute to environmental solutions. He believes they are in a unique position to assist in bridging the gap between eCommerce and environmental waste. According to him, this partnership is a perfect means for brands to turn their ecological consciousness into real action.
