UnionPay International (UPI) has launched a new Content & Service Platform (UCSP) called “Pay+”. They initiated this digital ecosystem in partnership with global financial institutions and industry service providers.

The platform provides value-added services to enhance the user experience for digital wallets developed or upgraded to UnionPay standards, enabling institutions outside mainland China to provide instant payment for utilities, transportation, lifestyle and entertainment.

Digital payment services have played an important role in slowing the spread of the virus since the outbreak of COVID-19, by reducing the risk of transmission from person to person. To reinforce this, UPI has accelerated the launch of its Content & Service Platform to provide a fast, suitable and secure cashless payment solution for 62 digital wallets developed or upgraded in 13 countries and territories to UnionPay standards.

The UPI Content & Service Platform aims to provide the changing mobile payment and lifestyle environment outside of mainland China with a broad set of technological tools. Making more value-added services available, the platform can serve as an important resource for digital wallets to retain their competitive edge and industry service providers will expand their channels of distribution to increase consumer traffic. Global consumers, meanwhile, can easily access various services from one single mobile app.

To date, services are accessible globally through the network offered by hundreds of merchants and service providers in public utilities, flight and hotel reservations, taxi-hailing and so on. These services will be available in up to two weeks, once they are connected.

UPI has stepped up productivity for wallet creators, merchants and service providers in the industry with the creative partnership model in place. UPI selects partners from industry subdivisions to create a “service pool” that can be selected by digital wallet developers to connect with the network through an integrated application programming interface (API), streamlining the process while substantially reducing technical requirements. The “UnionPay” app is the first mobile app in Hong Kong to launch nine online payment services for public utilities and lifestyle services through UCSP, promoting the swift adoption of local social distancing and public health initiatives in response to COVID-19.

UnionPay International will continue to upgrade the product in the future by providing more and more value-added tools, including big data analysis, to enable the development of partner organization membership programs and customer behavior analytics.

UnionPay International has intensified the development and upgrading of its technological systems in recent years, improving its capabilities for its partners in the digital mobile payment sector. UnionPay International currently develops more than 20 software systems and various solutions. For example, through UPI Developer, an integrated open platform, organizations and independent developers can get guidance and be more productive in entering UnionPay’s cross-border payment ecosystem.
